Unboxed my iPad Pro 11” earlier and just attempted my first FaceTime.

It connected but I was never able to see the other person. They could see me but in their place was a yellow person icon.

It is the first time this person received a FaceTime from me via iPad.

Has anyone else encountered this?

They also have to turn on FaceTime camera
Turn on FaceTime Camera

In iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, tap the screen during the call and select the camcorder icon until the FaceTime camera works. On older iOS and iPadOS versions, tap the screen during the call, swipe up the card at the bottom of the screen, and tap Camera Off to activate the FaceTime camera.Oct 15, 2021

Go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on FaceTime. Do any of the following: Set up your account for FaceTime calls: Tap Use your Apple ID for FaceTime, then tap Sign In.
