Hello,

Still trying to learn all the nuances in the OS after migrating from
a Windows pc.

a. I downloaded, and installed a photo editing program called GIMP.
Works fine.

The program icon (not an Alias, apparently) ended up on my Desktop.

No big deal I thought, but as I would like to limit the
amount of items on the Desktop, I thought I would simply put it into
the Applications Folder on the Dock. It certainly is an "Application".

Won't let me place it there. Folder just won't accept it.

Any thoughts as to why this might be ? How to do ?

Thanks,
Bob

You have to open the downloaded .dmg file, then move the executable (not the downloaded .dmg) to Applications folder. You may have to change your security settings, since it's not coming from the App Store (my settings).
