I have an iPod touch 5g with iOS 8 and a Macbook pro 13" mid 2010 (Yosemite PB3) with airdrop enabled in both devices, but they aren't able to see themselves...
is this a problem with PB3?

There is no problem. Your 2010 macbook is not compatible with the new airdrop. It can still airdrop with other old macs though.

Well, I thought the bluetooth 4.0 was only for handoff not for airdrop because it uses wi-fi
