I just bought a used 3g and for some reason I cant send SMS. the phone acts like they are sent but none of my friends get them. Im on version 3.0.1 on ATT

Any ideas?

That's MMS.

Have you tried toggling Airplane mode or rebooting the phone?

i have tried rebooting multiple times, i will try airplane mode and am reverting back to 3.0 at the moment to see if that fixes it

I restored to 3.0 and it fixed nothing. I called ATT and I told them i was using a 3g, I had a sony ericsson registered with them. She immediately gives me the schpeel that I am required to have a data plan if i officially register my iphone by giving them the imei which may fix the problem.

I didnt give them the imei cuz i dont wanna be required to have the data plan.

If anyone has some ideas let me know. Im curious if it would work if i swapped my sim into another 3g and texted. That would tell me if this problem is related to ATT or APPLE

If you had told us that important detail then we would have probably would've known why it wasn't working. The phone probably uses part of that data plan to send SMS correctly. That's what you get for trying to cheat the system and not pay your data plan.

It sounds like the problem is not related to Apple or AT&T. :)
