All 1v1 (at least bronze/silver/gold) is just a bunch of noobs playing terran and spamming tier 1 units. As protoss I'm forced to turtle hard and tech as fast as I can to colossi and immortals to even stand a chance, don't even think about going air because all terran has to do than is spam vikings and thats over.

Watching replays I get even more frustrated watching the terran that beat me, their macro is 9 chances out of 10 totally bad, they have a horrible grasp of econ etc etc, yet all they have to do is spam tier 1 units and its gg within a while. I'm not annoyed/angry that I'm losing, I'm frustrated/angry that I'm losing to people that are bad

/pointless rant

It's important that you get a sentry and keep the terran player out of your base, and if you're good you can cut off half of his army as he tries to go up the ramp (especially if he doesn't research stim). Also good micro will definitely hurt a bad terran player. Stalkers and Void Rays are good vs Vikings, and fully charged Void Rays destroy everything xD.

Thing is, keeping them out of my base with sentrys and FF requires basically my full attention.

im laughing so hard right now. ive never played the game and have no clue what you are saying, but it seems intense :D

ouch, what would happen if the opponents were using zergs and did the normal zerg rush?

I guess your better than me. Even though the game got rave reviews, i found Starcraft 2 to be soooo boring. I only hope the custom maps get better as time passes by. Maybe advanced galaxy editors will make awesome 3rd person shooter games with the map. The possibilities with the map editor more than make up for the $60 tag if people can make awesome maps (i tried, and failed miserably). Otherwise, i found the plot predictable and the campaign gameplay boring.

SC2 is really about the multiplayer. I found the campaign rather dull too story-wise especially after games like Mass Effect 1/2. Really the campaign is designed to train people up for multip. That's why the "turtle till you make a massive army to crush the enemy" missions are virtually non-existent.

Get some friends and play FFA or 3v3s on battlenet. That's where the real SC2 is happening.

Re the OP - I hear your pain, I really do. To really improve your game you might have to look to training partners/friends, sadly. In the meantime, work on getting your anti-Terran-T1 build/s perfect. As our favorite BMer would say, it's a good skill toi [sic] have.

Oh, and don't forget to take breaks. Too much SC2 kills anyone.

Hang in there! ;)

Also: Rereading the OP - yeah, I know what you mean about watching replays and thinking "Honestly, the person is terrible. I shouldn't be loosing to someone this weak". It does happen. As I say, you know what they are doing, make it your personal project to hone the perfect slipstreamed Protoss Terran-T1 killer.

bronze/silver/gold are all the equivalent of D- players on iCCup. Just get better.

most helpful post ever.

i just got the SC2 trial and it refuses to let me play because it will never connect to battle.net (i'm getting incredibly pissed with this authorization crap. it's a freaking trial) so I haven't had the chance to play yet. I know the frustration, similar to when terrible players on CoD4 belly flop and such. You just have to find that one thing that works then use it. There is always something. My post was just as useful as raven's I guess haha....

if it is anything like my SC days the trick to dealing with these people is figure out how to get threw the rush and then they are toast because you out tech them.

The people who go for the ends which turtle up until they tech up and then people who go low tech and rush are pretty weak the people who go middle of the road. Middle guys get to a point they can pound threw the turtles before they can reach the end of their tech tree and they are more powerful than the guys who rush.

the crappy players are the ones who just know how to rush or get to the end of the tech tree. Like the old carrier/battle cruiser fleets of the orginal SC. In that one I was a fan of a mix of Dragoons, Zelots and the Dark Zelots guys (ones who were cloaked all the time) My reason was the Dragoons took out the dectors Zelots protect dragoons and Dark guys did the real damage after a hole was blown threw the decectors.

I'm in the platinum league. I used to get frustrated when playing terran because it did seem like they could just build a hundred marines and I would get slaughtered every time as protoss.

As someone else mentinoed earlier, the key is to go middle-ground. You can't straight-up turtle and expect to win, nor can you expect to win with tier 1 units only unless you're a master rusher (and that gets boring fast). When playing against terran, I build about 3-4 colossi and some diversionary stalkers and I can basically demolish a 100-marine army in seconds.

The other key to victory is to time when to expand. If you expand too early and your opponent is going tier-1 for early attack, you'll lose guaranteed. Expand too late against an enemy that expanded early, and you'll also lose. You have to scout their base to get an idea of what their intentions are and respond accordingly.

BTW, to expand on my previous point, it does not take a lot of tech to get colossi. Gateway -> Cybernetics Core -> Robotic Factory (?) -> Robotic Facility (?). You don't need full 3-3-3 upgraded colossi to annihilate an army of marines; I typically only upgrade 1-1-1 max. You also don't need the colossus range upgrade. Cast Chrono Boost on your colossus factories to pump them out 50% faster.
