I can tether fine via bluetooth (I am doing it now), however I tried to select usb only with my phone connected to the computer and I get nothing. I went to the network setting in sys prefs, but nothing shows up? Am I missing something? I am running 10.4.11. I am on Fido so tethering is allowed (and free)

Have you had tethering working over USB at all previously? I have had it working over both, but have been trying to work around a fix to keep Visual Voicemail and tethering both active while still keeping the option to change Cellular Data Network.

I am at a point now where I can't tether over USB as well, but I think my problem is do to so many network connections on my mac. Probablly need to remove the plist file to get my network back to default.

Let me know!

No, today was the first time I have tried USB tethering. Which plist file will I have to remove?

I opened the network settings in sys prefs and the only options were for ethernet and wifi. How do I set up USB on the computer side?

It should appear after you have plugged in the iphone via USB and turned on Tethering on your iphone under Settings->General->Network and you should then go to your network settings on your mac and should see an entry called Ethernet 2 or something like that.

Your Network should look like this and it should say Cable is Connected. To get VM back. You need to Option-click "Check for update" in iTunes with phone plugged it and navigate to User/Library/itunes/iphone support carrier and click Open. It will restore the original carrier file and remove Network Data selection from your iPhone. Now both will play nicely together. I had mine working since 3.0 came out.

When I plug my iphone in, I don't get an option for ethernet 2 or anything. Just unplugged ethernet port and airport. Could this have something to do with the fact that I enabled tethering before officially being told I could by Fido? I went to a site and got it enabled there via a small installation. If so, can I get rid of that, and get it from Fido?

OSX 10.5.7 or higher is required to tether via USB.
From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3574 :
For Internet tethering using a USB port you need:

* A Mac OS X computer running Mac OS X 10.5.7 or later or a computer running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later or Windows Vista, and a USB 2.0 port.
