Hello.

All of a sudden I cannot turn on any Safari extensions. I click the check box to turn an extension on but it does nothing. This happens to all extensions (1blocker, 1password etc).

I've tried removing an reinstalling 1blocker to no avail.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I've restarted my Mac.

Many thanks.

M.

Hey mrochester. I work for 1Password, and we're actively battling this glitch with a number of users. Since it's not specific to 1Password, it's proving hard to find a solution, but one of my colleagues and I might have found one — can you go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions, then navigate to a different pane (e.g., Advanced), and then back to Extensions? With any luck, your checkboxes might be enable-able now. Please let me know. 🙂

I have the same problem and the above solution did not work unfortunately.

I might add too though that I am using an unsupported Mac. I do not know if this somehow affects the issue.

I just did it. Ive tried Forzing closure of Safari, quoting all the way 1password and in the middle I activated on and off the 1password extension helper within 1password preferences.

So I finally was able to turn off and turn on extensions in Safari. I read on another web site, that a user simply moved (jiggled) the extension screen and it recognized the enable/disable checkbox. So I tried it on all my extensions and it has worked perfectly, go figure. In the latest 1Password update to 7.5, it does not work yet it works on all other extensions.

I can't believe it! This works. What a strange solution. Thanks!

I'm so glad I thought to look here. Happy user of 1password on every device but was trying to add to my new MBA and can't tell you how many times I installed/uninstalled, etc. That extension box wouldn't be checked until I "agitated la ventana" as Jabu said. First time I've every had to wiggle a window to make software work.

The more that I evaluate this issue, it appears related to 1Password although a recent update to Stop the Madness seems to acknowledge an issue related to this problem. Tow of us individually replicated the seeming 1Password connection.

What worked for me was to delete the extension, reset PRAM and then add the extension back in.

According to Jeff Johnson, In Safari framework -[ExtensionsPreferencesOld canEnableExtensions] is returning NO. It's checking some kind of view occlusion. It is tied to SwiftUI. Several have reported this to Apple and all that Apple asks is to send them a Sysdiagnose. So I finally was able to turn off and turn on extensions in Safari. The "Window is occluded" message I saw in the Console, when trying to enable an extension, led me to close any apps that use overlays on screen, such as software brightness apps (QuickShade, Nocturnal), night mode type apps (Flux, Nocturnal), rounded corner adder apps (Displaperture).

Quitting / killing those apps (or not starting them) had resolved the issue for me, and allowed me to enable Safari Extensions again.

I had just started using a new MBA when this happened, no other software installed. I’m just glad the jiggle window worked.

Could you please post your response in English. Try creating a new user account, login to the new user account and see if the extensions work in Safari.

Boot into Recovery Mode (Command (⌘)-R), download and install the latest Catalina version. See if that helps. Do you have any ant-virus software installed on your Mac?

No, I do not have any antivirus software on the mac, but to reinstall the OS, I hope it will be resolved, because when installing the OS from 10.15.0 I have the problem of the selection box of extensions in safari, today I have installing 10.15.5 and follow the problem.

The only other thing I can suggest is maybe doing a erase and install of Catalina and migrate your user data from backup.
