When I try to turn on the Apple Watch unlock feature, I get a message that says:

"Two-factor authentication is required to allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac. To turn on two-factor authentication, you must first turn off two-step verifcation at appleid.apple.com."

So I did just that. I logged into appleid.apple.com, turned off two step, and turned on two factor. But the error message remains the same when I check the box for the unlock feature. I've restarted a few times, waited several hours, same problem. Any ideas?

I have this problem too. This message is kind of nuts if you ask me. The only real bad thing is now I have to reset all my two factor / app specific passwords!

Anyone have any input on this?

I had this issue as well and was able to solve it by signing out of icloud, keeping all the data locally that it would let me, then signing back in. This prompted me for a 4 digit security pin, which wasn't an automatically generated pin, but one I picked and set up before.
Hope this helps.

I also had this issue. I fixed it by going into my iPhone running IOS 10 and enabling two factor authentication there as well. I had previously done it in iCloud but that wasn't enough.

I should say that the unlock for me works sporadically. Im still not sure why that is...

If anyone has any ideas, id be interested.

I talked to Apple, and I made a mistake. I had two-step verification turned on, and not two-factor authentication, so it was my bad. Once I turned on two factor on my phone, everything started working.
