Cant Update Ipod

Had though my software update had been updating the ipod software as and when it found updates. But looking at the Installed Updates tab i find records like this:

Sunday, December 04, 2005 18:57:31 America/New_York: Installed "iPod Updater 2005-11-17" ((null))

Its the null but that im confused about. The softeware installs to my hard disk (OS 10.2.8) but does not seem to load on to the ipod even when its attched. If i try to click on the ipod as the disk of choice it has a big red exclamation mark

Last successful update was Wednesday, March 16, 2005 21:33:57 America/New_York: Installed "iPod Driver" (3.1)
Any ideas on what im doing wrong?

Are you sure that update is for your model of iPod? Not every iPod has updated software with each iPod Updater release. For example, the latest iPod Updater is ONLY for the iPod Shuffle I believe.

Thanks for the tip. I was under the impression that every update carries the most recent software for all ipods - its what the download suggested.:

I'll look into it though. You may well be right.
