I've just upgraded a Macbook Pro from MacOS 10.13 High Sierra to 10.14 Mojave (erasing the drive and doing a clean install), followed by restoring my Home folder and apps (using Migration Assistant).

One of my apps I restored from my backup drive was Logic Pro X (10.4.8), and now I want to update it (I believe it's version 10.5 something which is the latest version that runs on Mojave), but never got an alert to update. So instead I went to the App Store, looked up Logic Pro X, and sure enough there was an "Update" button there which I pressed, only to get this error message:

Why am I instead not just alerted about the final version and asked if I want to download the latest compatible version with my OS? I've always been able to do that in the past. Is there a bug in Mojave's version of the App store? A workaround perhaps? Or do I have to delete my existing Logic Pro X, then resort to downloading it all over again?

Thanks for pointing this out.
Deleting the existing app, then re-downloading it from the App store worked! But only if I did it the right way.

If I search and go to the app's page, then click the "Update" button I get the same error message as before, effectively preventing me from updating.

But if I first click on my name (Apple ID -you need to log in first) I'd get a list of all previously downloaded/purchased apps, and from there I can re-download it, getting the latest version compatible with my OS.
