Can't use Citrix Workspace with external monitor on either M1 MBP or Intel MBP

I use Citrix Workspace for work and it seems horrendously bad. Specifically it will not let me use my 4K external display properly. When I plug in to the monitor and enter full screen on Citrix, it makes the laptop screen go all gray and the content doesn't fully display on the monitor. I've adjusted resolution settings and rarely the adjusted resolution settings allows content to show on both screens…but this is not duplicatable. Meaning I can put the settings back to the exact resolution settings from before and it usually won't work, even if it did 10 attempts ago.

I've tried this on an M1 MacBook Pro and an older Intel MacBook Pro. Both have the exact same problem, whether connecting with USB C or HDMI.

The monitor works perfectly on native Mac and Windows so it's definitely a Citrix problem. Just can't figure out how to get around this.

I would check the version of Citrix you're using and experiment with either older versions or, if your workplace is like mine, they have a 'preferred' version of Citrix. For me, my workplace links to a specific version of Citrix which happens to be an older version (and Intel-native version at that). I use a newer Apple Silicon optimized version and for whatever reason it sometimes doesn't correctly establish a connection, so I'll have to force quit it and restart my session. The old pre-Apple Silicon version they link to, however, works every time. It's just slower. And I prefer not running any Intel software on my M1 Pro machine if I can avoid it.

Figured it out. If you uncheck the high DPIsettijg external monitors work.

Same here. Unchecked the DPI setting in Citrix Viewer. But I am using Apple Studio Displays and after unchecking DPI the fonts and icons in the remote session are very large. I can live with it but it is not ideal.

Moral of the story is that Citrix is **** software, but often unfortunately there is no alternative.
