They are more than happy to set it up at the store. I got asked like 3 times if i needed help to set it up at the store.

Just for perspective, you don't have to sync it, only connect it. I have no idea why they need to activate it, but I don't see a reason it couldn't be done on any Mac/PC-with-iTunes in a store too. Also of note, it requires iTunes 9.1.

At least that's good to hear. Ordered 3G version for a relative but will now cancel that order. Will tell her to buy it at her local Apple store, maybe the 4.0 version will be available soon. She wants it for web browsing, e-mail and some Apps so no need for sync. - she has no computer and thought this would be perfect.

Well that's good news just plug unplug. I can tell ya a car charger wont do it. Must be other USB data pin that tells the ipad it's synced. Any mcgroobers out there have a paper clip work around?

well stuipd me I didn't think about activation and left my MacBook at home because I was just going use the ipad. Won't be home or around a pc for hours.
