So, some of you know about my iPod software known as Canto Pod, which allows you to download song lyrics on to your iPods and iTunes libraries.

I've gotten lots of requests to make it for Mac and well, I finally did! In Widget form. This is the first times its available for a Mac. I also released a mobile version of it for cell phones.

Heres my little press release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CORRESPONDENCE: press@staylazy.net

New York, New York (April 11th, 2007) – Staylazy (http://www.staylazy.net) announced a new version of their iPod software Canto Pod (http://www.staylazy.net/canto) this morning. The new version has been created for users of Apple’s Mac OSX and is available for immediate release.

Canto Pod is a tool that allows users to download song lyrics onto their iPods and iTunes libraries. It has been featured in countless publications, and is currently ranked #3 on CNet.com’s iPod Essential List.

“The one question I’m always asked is ‘Why isn’t Canto Pod available for my Mac?’. Well, now it is, and I think its great” said Zeve Salman, founder of Staylazy.

Canto Pod for Microsoft Windows has been downloaded over 30,000 times and has served over 100,000 unique lyric requests. It holds a database of more then 200,000.

The new version of Canto Pod for OSX is available in Widget form, occupying less system resources. It has new features, such as the “Copy to iTunes” function, which downloads lyrics directly to a users iTunes library.

Along with Canto Pod for OSX, Staylazy also announced a version of the software for all mobile phones. The version is still in beta, but is believed to be working properly on most hardware and carriers.

Canto Pod is of course, like all other software released by Staylazy, free. No user registration is required.

To download or learn more about Canto Pod, please visit the following websites:

Canto Pod for Mac OSX: http://www.staylazy.net/canto/x
Canto Pod for Windows: http://www.staylazy.net/canto/pc
Canto Pod for Mobile: http://www.staylazy.net/canto/mobile

And just a little background on all of this, I work alone, am 17 years old, and am still totally undecided about what college I will be attending next September. Also, I make no money off of this, except for a few donations every few months. I do it out of love ;]

This is perfect usage of a widget, IMO. When I lookup lyrics, I just want a quick lookup. The featureset and interface is better than some of the other popular iTunes lyrics widgets. I'd probably not give it as much time of day if it was a full-fledged application, so this is just perfect.

Thanks!

Awwww.

Seems to be lots of love out there for this program.

Nice little trick for you, if you have a disk image with a folder "iPod_Control" inside it when you click copy to iPod it will create a folder called "Notes" and then "Lyrics" and there will be the lyrics. I have this set up to test scripts I write so I don't always have to have my iPod attached to the computer.

Thanks everybody.

I am really glad that everyone is enjoying the program and that its working well. A lot of time and effort was put into this so its always a treat to see people giving it a thumbs up.

If you want to help out, please make sure to let your friends know about it. Word of mouth is the best way to advertise this kind of program. Also, if you would like too, you can ask certain publications to post about it, such as iLounge (larry@ilounge.com) and TUAW (http://www.tuaw.com/tips/) or any other site you think would be good. Thats really the best way to get the word out.

Any negative user experiences so far?

Did some server maintenance and now the process of seeking lyrics should be even quicker then before =]

Also, the link in my signature is to the Digg story I just posted. Clicking it would be appreciated if you want to check out Canto Pod.

You've always been able to do it, without special software. Right click a song, click "get info", click the lyrics tab and copy-paste lyrics from a website.

Yep, but Canto Pod makes it that much easier to "go to a website". There is no searching involved. Listen to a song in iTunes, press f12 to get to dashboard and then hit "Get iTunes Song" in Canto Pod, and you are set =]

Number 13 on Apple's Top 50 widget list.

I know I'm thread crapping, but I just want to use this for keeping track!

To give constructive criticism...

You have a button on the widget that allows the lyrics to be attached to the song in iTunes. When I tested it on a few songs, I would get their info and look a the lyrics section, and nothing is there!

Other than that, works like a charm! Fast, friend, and it get's right lyrics!

Thanks for the app!

Steve

Steve,

The button "Get iTunes Song" looks for the lyrics of the currently playing song in iTunes. Once you find the lyrics that you are satisfied with, clicking 'Copy to iTunes' will sync it to your iTunes currently playing song.

You can read more about it in the manual: http://www.staylazy.net/help/viewhelp.php?id=12

Awesome app. Been looking for something like this. The ones I've tried in the past haven't been great. One question though, any way to make it smaller, or at least give the option? Works great on the desktop, not so much on the laptop. Thx.

I'm working on decreasing the size in one of the next revisions.

In other news, it just broke the Top 10 on Apples site
