Capabilities of the GeForce 9400m

Hello everyone! I have a "Collectors Edition" MacBook with a 2GHz Intel C2D, 2Gb of ram, and the 9400m. Anyways, I was just curious to see how well this chip performs game-wise (Boot camp, Virtual, or OS X). Any benchmarks, personal opinion, and really anything else would be awesome! I and many others probably want to know this chip's true capabilities!

Haha, "Collectors Edition"? Is that what people who bought one are calling it?

I've got the MBP 13 which is, for all intents and purposes the same specs (0.2GHz faster CPU). I haven't done a whole lot of games or things like that but from what I've read they are slightly better than the X1600 cards (though I could be totally wrong). Check out Tom's Hardware. I'll also try to remember to do am OpenCL benchmark test and post it for you.

I'm pretty happy with the graphics performance for my needs as I don't game too much and don't do modeling or heavy photo editing.

My specs as follows; C2D 2.0GHz, 4Gb 1066 Ram, 120Gb 7200rpm HD, 256Mb 9400M... all inside a Mac Mini.

I actually run bootcamp (only use for games) and I must admit that I am impressed with the 9400M. I have recently been playing Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, the 9400M can run everything at max settings and draw distances with HDR (minus shadows) at 1600*900.

Although I don't have any benchmarks, it plays quite well.

Keep in mind that the 9400M graphics run at 512MB of shared memory while using WinXP.

Download FRAPS and have it run in the corner of your screen. Don't set it to record.

Run whichever game you're interested and it will display the frame rate you're presently getting.

Keep in mind that the 9400M graphics run at 512MB of shared memory while using WinXP.

It says 512MB but it still uses 256MB. Confirmed with 1.75GB of ram usable for the system

Performance of the 9400m

As a fellow owner of a "Collector's Edition" Unibody Macbook, I have to say I'm very impressed with my laptop. I went from having a 17-inch HP Pavilion DV8000 with a 256mb Geforce Go 7600 graphics card and was skeptical of the power of the 13-inch mac, but I have to say its handled everything I've thrown at it remarkably well. I use XP for gaming and 3D modeling and no matter what, the computer has usually handled it. I saw it mentioned before on this thread, but I'm currently playing Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion and it handles it decently, along with Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2142, Half Life 2, etc. Is it a gaming GPU? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it can't be a remarkably capable GPU in its own right. Its actually helped me rediscover PC gaming after a stint as a console gamer, so I'd say all in all you should be happy with your "tiny little GPU that could" as it were. Hope this helps!

Running a 2ghz dual core, 2gb ram, 9400m...obviously use bootcamp for most gaming with windows xp

Im very happy with the 9400 as i do game quite a bit. It can run most games in normal mode. However i did have troubles running American Army 2 without graphics lag...this might be more on the game side though.
I played wow and war no problems. Also tf2 runs very smoothly.
