Hello,

How can I get an image of what I have on my desktop and save it as a .jpg?

I need to capture the image of an internet page but dont know how.

command > shift > 4 all at once. A set of crosshairs will come. It will save the file as a png. There is a way to change that though. I downloaded Onyx and set it to save as a jpg.

How about Grab, which will capture a screen, window, or whatever portion you select. Saves as a .tiff, which any half decent photo software can convert into ,jpg.

Grab is already in the utilities folder and iPhoto in Applications.

Sorry if this is another Apple feature drop in Leopard.

Just for curiosity what is this referring to? Nothing has changed regarding screenshots from previous OSX implementations (as has been shown above) and there is no need to go into Grab for them, so I have to wonder what you meant. Thanks.

I have Grab in the dock, so the 'no need to go into Grab' isn't an issue. The mouse clicks are easy enough.

It's just that I came across threads where people were touting third party apps to do what Grab can already do.
And the command>shift>4 spacebar captures extra pixels.

ok, today I did the command+shift+option+4 to capture an image w/text. Everything seemed to work fine, but I can't find the image now. It hasn't saved to my desktop. I tried the screen capture and it sounded like the picture took, but again, not saved to desktop. Where would it be? I checked pic & document folders, to no avail. I can't search in spotlight cuz I have no idea what the image is now called. Any ideas?

Are you sure you didnt click the control button, not the option button? When you use the contrl button the picture is saved onto your clipboard, for copy and paste.

I'm such a tool, I only recently discovered Pro Tips. I was annoyed with the other tips b/c I knew most of them. But I've picked up a few tricks on Pro Tips.
