I have an iPhon6+ running System 8.4.1. How do I go about taking a screen shot, and can I take a screen shot of any screen I am viewing? According to David Pogue's Missing Manual on the iPhone, all I need to do is hold down the Home button and while it is down, press the Sleep switch. The problem is that holding down the Home button brings up Siri. Either Pogue is wrong or I am not understanding something.

Press them at exactly the same time.
^^^This. Works on the lockscreen too, although keep in mind it's a fair bit more difficult on the lockscreen if you have Touch ID enabled.

Also, I've noticed that due to the positioning of the buttons on the 6+ I also tend to hit the volume key when doing this. Maybe that's just me…

Yes, thanks for both answers. I always thought that David Pogue's The Missing Manual Series was very good, but the Music and Photo sections of this one have really confused me. For the Screen Shot, he says: "Now hold down the home button, and while its down press the sleep switch." You can see how this wouldn't work.

David Pogue, I think, has lost his relevance since moving on to his current job. His stuff has become watered down for the masses (not speaking about you) and he just doesn't seem to carry the same intensity for this stuff anymore. At least, since moving on he has seemed to all but disappear from the tech scene - unless you read his column I guess.

Just my opinion.

Still probably not much of an excuse when it comes to getting the description of taking a screen capture wrong like that.

Yeah, but that's kind of what I'm meaning. Honestly, I don't think he cares anymore. He's got a regular job and is just phoning in his column. If he's wrong he doesn't have a whole lot of people who know better after him anymore.

When was the last time one of his tips or tricks was news? When was the last time he was doing anything that wasn't above a standard level that most users can easily grasp?

What is not explained is that you push the buttons quickly, you don't hold them down.
