Hello. I have a doubt about FW800 compatibility. I´m about to buy the new iMAC 27" and have in mind to buy a bidirectional video converter:

http://desktop.grassvalley.com/products/ADVC110/index.php

There´s a note that says: "A video capture card or OHCI FireWire connection is required to capture DV. IEEE 1934 FW800 connectors are not supported".

But I read that I could connect this device to the FW800 port with a FW400 to FW800 adapter (or otherwise buy the FireWire 800(1394b)/FireWire 400 (1394a) 9-Pin to 4-Pin Interconnect Cable) and would work fine as if was compelling with IEEE1934 rules. I wonder if FCS would recognize the video signal and I´m not making a mistake buying this device. Capturing analog media is part of my services. Any suggestions of a similar device that would work with a FW800 connection? Or the Canopus ADVC110 will work properly in the new iMAC?
Thank you!

If its any help, I regularly captured DV Video via the firewire 800 port on my three year old iMac 24 (just sold)
I dont anticipate any problems with using a 800 to 400 adaptor on my new i5 iMac.

Yes it will work I use a FW400 to 800 adapter that I got off of amazon for my DV camera and it works flawlessly. You should have no problems.

I've heard tales of frying the circuitry on old Sony Digital8 video cameras when trying to input old Video8 analog tapes into modern iMacs because of changes in the FireWire standard in the intervening years.

Should I be frightened?
