This is a new one for me on ios 17 DB2 and 3. As soon as the phone connects to my 2017 Toyota Highlander, the car display some times shows "Call in progress" and it cannot be cancelled by pressing the call end button. The phone does NOT show any call in progress. The only thing that cancels it is either turning BT off and then back on or opening an app that uses BT audio.

This is highly intermittent and I have not found a way to reliably reproduce it.

Anyone else?

That's the plan. just wondering if I'm the only example.

Does this have anything to do with what I've seen in some automobiles: audio being connected as a Bluetooth call?

I've been in some cars that, when Maps or Google Maps speaks directions, the dashboard indicates a BT call during the voice.

I'm sure it is something like that..... that was my suspicion as well. But it is totally new behavior for ios 17. Never happened on 15 or 16.

My car displays every Siri conversation as a “phone call” in the instrument cluster if I’m using Bluetooth or wireless CarPlay. Just depends on how each infotainment unit handles the different streams of audio. I think it’s because the car is activating the HFP profile with Siri, instead of A2DP (probably something to do with how the microphones in the car work).

What I do like is my car and my BF’s car both recognize the turn by turn prompts while using maps as “navigation voice” and gives it an independent volume entirely.

I have noticed with 17 when getting into the car and connecting with CarPlay, it’s common for my instrument cluster to light up for a second as if I was talking to Siri.

Hey Paul,

Curious if this is still happening for you/if Apple had anything to say about it? I'm seeing similar behavior--it will say 'Ending Call' when I wasn't on one to begin with. When I do hang up a call, it's been taking longer for 'Ending Call' to go away. Also very intermittent

Can't speak for previous iOS versions as I'm coming from Android, but it's new behavior for me as well. I figured it had more to do with my 2009 in-car system working with a 2023 phone+software...then again, it didn't happen with my 2019 phone!

No, it has not happened recently. Primarily because I went back to Android (for unrelated reasons) ;)

I can't say for sure if it happened towards the end of my time with IOS or not. It was very intermittent.

And no, Apple never contacted me or commented.... about any of the bugs I have reported during the IOS 17 beta.

Funny thing.... I switched from the iPhone 13 Pro to a Samsung S23 and joined their beta program (which just ended). They had a Samsung rep reading the beta forum and actually participating actively. What I would have expected from a company like Apple and definitively NOT what I expected from Samsung.... but certainly a welcome surprise.

Hey Paul,

Thanks for your reply--I ended up switching back to Android as well! I liked the 15Pro/iOS but was missing Android too much. I guess we are set in our ways!

Anyway, I had a Pixel 8 Pro briefly (returned--too big) running Android 14, and now back with my trusty Galaxy S10 which has run Android 9-12 thru the years...no more bug with my car's bluetooth! Looks like it is an iOS 17 bug rather than an old car + new phone issue.

Nice to hear that Samsung reps are active in the Beta program. How are you liking the S23? I considered the Black Friday deals but decided to wait as the S24 will be out soon (January, if the rumors are correct).

I have this intermittently as well. Have not been using any other Bluetooth audio. I have only been able to fix it by disconnecting BT.

I have a 2018 Lexus ES350.

I have to say I like the S23. It ticked all three boxes that I was missing on IOS.... active battery charge limit, desktop mode and the ability to organize the home screen the way I want to organize it. I really was more than willing to stick with IOS but I resent not being able to use my phone the way I want to use it when we're talking about really simple stuff.
