Car Stereo: Using Wi-Fi Sync With iPod Touch - Dock Your Car, Not Your iPod

I've got an iPhone and an iPad running iOS 5 but before I go out and buy an iPod Touch for my car am wondering if anyone has successfully used wi-fi sync to wirelessly sync the iPod Touch in your car. Assuming it's hooked up to a power source (cigarette lighter) has anyone successfully used it in this fashion?

Dreaming of the day that I won't have to unhook and bring my Touch into the house, sync it with wires, and remember to bring it out to the car every week.

For daily podcasts and weekly tweaks to playlists, will be fantastic.

I have tried, no real luck so far. The ipod touch turns off wifi when it's locked. So, you have to leave it unlocked in the car. Even the newest generation couldn't last the night with the screen on the lowest brightness and wifi on. I'm afraid this still isn't practical with the ipod touch unless you can rewire your car, but then you risk draining your car battery anyway.

It should stay connected to wifi constantly, even when locked, so that it can facilitate push notifications. My iPad stayed connected, and so does my iPhone 4S.

This is correct. The iDevice doesn't need to be unlocked to wifi sync. If your vehicle is close enough to the wifi signal, it should sync with no problems. It doesnt need to be hooked up to a power source either. You can manually sync within iTunes without the iDevice being plugged into a power source. Plugging it into a power source just activates an automatic sync, but it's not necessary to manually sync.

If it was plugged into the car Powerport, would it not sync like it would if it was charging in the house?
