I have over 100gb of music in iTunes by the same artist. If I play a single song by this artist CCC will re-copy the entire file to my backup drive. Any ideas why CCC is seeing that the entire folder needs to be re-copied when one song has been played? This is a standard mirror clone operation.

100gb, one artist? really, tho, contact the developer (bombich software), they're very good with support.

You'll stand a better chance of getting the right answer if you contact the author of the software. (info@bombich.com).
I've always had good response from them when I have had an issue with CCC.

I agree. I had an issue about a month ago and he got back to me the same day.

OP> To submit the support request, do it from the help menu in the app and make sure you check the box to send the CCC logs along with the request. That will make troubleshooting much easier for the dev.

I always though that carbon copy cloner just copied the files rather than merged directories with updated files, or am I wrong?

On subsequent clones it will by default look for new or changed files and move only those over to the second drive. Sounds like for some reason when the OP accesses one file it is making CCC think the whole 100GB folder is new/changed.

The only thing I can think of is that a while ago I added album artwork to most of the tracks- big mistake. It is all the same artwork, over 600 tracks of Armin van Buuren "A State of Trance" episodes. Of course, Apple will not allow you to remove artwork from more than one title at a time. If you select more than one title, get info, and the artwork is not there, even though it is. So you cannot select it to delete. I suppose I will have to go through 600 tracks one at time. Or just throw the whole lot in the trash.

I think that might be it. I believe artwork gets embedded in the music file's meta data, so that may cause CCC to see all those files as changed.
