Carbon Copy iMac hard drive to Mac Pro

I have just made the leap and purchased a new mac pro and I just wanted to check that it will be okay to use carbon copy cloner to copy the hard drive of my 2011 iMac onto the Mac Pro SSD (they are both 512gb). The iMac is running 10.10.2, I guess what I'm thinking about system files etc that are iMac / Mac Pro specific.

i wouldn't do it. transfer your files manually. it's a 1 time job, but it's the most secure thing you can do

This is an instance where CCC (at least as insofar as doing a "full clone" is involved) is NOT an option.

The old OS is probably insufficient to run the new Mac Pro.

If you can connect the MacPro to the older Mac, you could use Migration Assistant to "bring over" accounts, apps, data, etc. (without migrating the OS files).

Another option would be a completely "manual migration", by using either an external hard drive, USB flashdrive, etc.

Another thought:
If you ran the 10.10.3 combo updater on the iMac, I'm wondering if it would then have the sufficient OS files with which to boot and run the MacPro ?
In that case, a simple clone using CCC might indeed work.
Of course, the only way to know would be to try doing it...
