I have recently started getting various errors with my Carbonlib. I am on 10.5.2. Whenever i look up this problem, it only is happening to Tiger and Panther people, but i have not found any people with this problem on leopard. It does not work on various applications i try to open. For instance, when i try to open the shockwave installer for mac, it gives me this error:

The application "Shockwave Installer Slim" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<BaseInstaller Carbon><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_FindByContent><>

I have gone into /System/library/CFMSupport and verified ALL the checksums of the files in it with md5 and internet resources. I have also tried replacing my lib with a friends, who does not have the problem, but it still didn't work. I cannot afford a external right now, as I just bought this 3,600 dollar MacBook Pro a few months ago. It already has almot 100 Gb of my applications, projects, and graphic design work on it, and i cannot afford a clean install. Does anyone know of a way to reinstall all the Carbon components? The only ones i find are 1.6.1 installers for the CLASSIC environment, which i cannot run.

Please help me! In the name of Steve Jobs help me! I need Shockwave to work, and these Carbonlibs to become fixed.

PLEASE HELP ME. Even if you can just supply me with a backup copy of the 4 GB System Folder in the form of nearly 40 rar's, thats fine with me. I REALLY NEED THIS FIXED. IT'S REALLY URGENT.

Not necesarily, I just need the core components for carbon and where they should go. I just CAN'T do an archive and install. I do NOT have an external on hand, it is being used by a friend in Maldivas to store pictures. Besides, its only 120 GB, and i have almost 160 GB of stuff on my hard drive.

Use Pacifist to extract the files from your system CDs.

So you say you can't afford an external hard drive... can you afford a hard drive failure and losing all your data? :)

Final Cut Pro Messing up Shared Libraries?

I have recently been having shared library issues, mainly in the CarbonLib. When certain applications (carbon apps) are launched, they immediately crash and display the following error:

The application (example) could not be launched because of a shared library eroror: "<main><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_FindByContent><>"

I investigated my carbon library in System/Library/CFM Support, to find that all the carbon libs were being recognized as Final Cut Pro Plug-ins. Despite this, shouldn't they still work? And where is the FindByContent thing? I have uninstalled Final Cut Pro, but they are still recognized as plugins. I cannot find the extension file to delete. Any help would be appreciated. I have also attempted to reinstall the combo update, but as I have already installed the Safari and Time Machine updates, it will not let me. I am running 10.5.2 by the way.

Do you know how to run apps from the terminal?

If so, try executing the Final Cut Pro executable from the shell:

cd /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/
./FinalCut

What error messages do you see?
