I understand the vO2 gets measured at low levels when running walking etc. but one of the explanation sentences says that it will take readings and tell you fitness levels even if you're not doing a workout.

I didn't get a reading yesterday after download new iOS on both watch and phone, and I even did a "Skate" workout which I hoped would contribute to a reading somehow.

has anyone managed to get readings in the health app for cardio fitness without doing walk/run/wheelchair workouts?

I have a ton of data or it, I don't know if its all from my workouts or not though. I do multiple workouts a day.

Seems a little off to me. I've been doing running workouts since earlier this year when I decided the gym was a risk I shouldn't be taking and I typically go between 3 and 5 miles with a 9'30" pace on an average day. Health is telling me my cardio health is low.

I think it will need some tweaks to work better. This article states it's not extremely accurate and gives other info:
