In iOS 12, when I was using CarPlay and had my AirPods in, my text messages and my phone calls would route to my AirPods, and everything else would go through my car stereo. Ever since upgrading to iOS 13, my AirPods do not work with CarPlay anymore. If I have my AirPods in while I am trying to listen to a text message, it routes through my stereo system, and when I go to answer the message, as usual, CarPlay freezes up and does not recognize any voice. I have to take my AirPods out and then reply to the message using my voice through my vehicle's microphone. The same thing happens with phone calls, I am unable to use my AirPods while talking on the phone when CarPlay is being used.

This is very frustrating because it was very nice to be able to use my AirPods while in the car with text messages and such because it would not interrupt the music or the GPS directions. I'm wondering if this is just a bug or something that Apple has done intentionally. Looking to see if there is a workaround for this, or if Apple knows that this issue exists and is working on a fix.

Thanks

It wouldn’t shock me if this was done intentionally given the attention being given to car safety, I know it is illegal in some states to have headphones in while driving and some others have restrictions. I think it could be a liability issue for Apple if they allow the functionality.
