I have never had CarPlay. I am having it installed this week for the first time by installing a car unit that's totally wireless. I am running iOS 12.1 beta (16B5084a) on an iPhone XS Max. Should I expect any major issues? Should I downgrade to non-beta release first. Thanks!

CarPlay is actually built into the iOS on your phone. The display in your car really just acts as a display for the software. Think of it as connecting a monitor to your laptop.

You should be good to go!

Oh wow I didn't know that. I thought that the iOS version on my phone had to have all sorts of compatibility check points with the software in my car's unit. If it's just like adding a monitor, then this should be a smooth operation. Thanks!!!

Oh no! I hope this doesn't happen to me. Is this an issue only with the beta release?

I'm on 12.1 beta as well and it frequently disconnects from carplay at random times. Mostly when the phone is picked up or unlocked to check emails etc when parked. It wasn't an issue on the first iOS 12 beta I ran all summer, just recently when I added the 12.1 beta in September after upgrading to an XS from the X.

So far so good. I have not had any issues with my new unit and CarPlay. I installed a Pioneer Avic-w6400Nex.
