I just stared using CarPlay iOS 14 Dev Beta 4 in a 2018 Honda Odyssey. Almost each time I get in the car, CarPlay works when plugged in. While out, if I stop the car and go in somewhere and turn the car off, then come back out and get back in the car, CarPlay launches correctly but audio from all audio apps, music, Spotify, SiriusXM all show as playing but the audio is muted. I’m trying to figure out if this a 2018 Honda Odyssey problem or an iOS 14 Dev Beta 4 problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you used CarPlay in that manner without that behavior before iOS 14 beta 4?

I have a 2019 Ridgeline, which is similar. I haven't run into the issue. I'm assuming that you are leaving your phone plugged in? What happens if you unplug, and then replug the phone in? Does the audio work?

Did you clear the connected device pairings other than your phone from the headhunt? Do you have your phone paired?

I unplug my phone as I’m getting out of the van.

When the issue happens, I do unplug the phone and plug it back in. The audio will come out of my phone if I press play on the now playing screen, but when I plug it back in the audio still doesn’t come through on CarPlay even though it shows it’s playing. I have to restart the phone and then the audio will work.

I have cleared out all other paired phones in both the CarPlay and in the Bluetooth settings as well.

What happens if you plug the phone in before restarting the car?

Also, have you done any map updates on the car? I had connection issues when I first got the truck, but they’ve pretty much gone away after a few updates (although they are supposedly just map updates).

I think there is a problem with the head unit software where the phone connects via native Bluetooth before CarPlay connection is established. Again, try plugging the phone in before starting the car.

I will give this a try and may also unpair my phone from Bluetooth if this could be the culprit. It may be playing but through the Bluetooth output.

Thank you! I believe this may have fixed the situation. I completely unpaired the audio from the phone to van via Bluetooth and it works as it should. I may re-pair it and just make sure I’m plugging the phone in before starting the car, but either way I believe that you have helped my find the root of the problem. Thanks again.
