So with the 3.1.2 came AT&T carrier file 5.6 (formerly 5.5)... I know last time we were able to update, but I don't see that anyone's posted nor confirmed the carrier file can be update the same way.

Now I normally am not one to jump at updates, but when it comes to carrier files, if there's any small glimmer of hope that maybe it might improve the way the phone talks to the network, the only direction we can go with AT&T is up, so I jump all over it, haha.

Anyone know what this carrier file does and where it can be found to update a 3.0.1 device?

Thanks as always!

I downloaded both the OS 3.1.2 and the carrier 5.6. Only installed the carrier file. I did this by doing the shift+update I'm iTunes and navigating to my carrier updates folder on my pc. If the option to select an ipcc is greyed out for you, search the forum or google for instructions on a command line entry to enable that. I did not notice any difference after upgrading to the 5.6 file.

Good luck.

Any way to extract it or find it online?
