iPhone carrier update settings? what is this?

everytime i connect to iphone to wi fi then a message pops up saying '' carrier settings update'' what is this? is it safe to do or not? does it erase my jailbreaking? please suggest
It is safe. Carrier updates don't do anything regarding the jailbreak
