I have a jailbroken iPhone 3G that i blackra1n'd i was just wondering if it is ok to install carrier update as iTunes is asking me whenever i plug in my iPhone. I don't mind if it affects tethering as i don't use it but are they any other problems?

Carrier update enables MMS. It won't affect your jailbreak.

If it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind!

Seriously!! - If your phone is working as it should (MMS & tethering) then ignore the carrier settings update.

You may not use tethering today... but one day you may wish to give it a spin - when you are out visiting relatives over Christmas maybe?

*sigh* The carrier update doesn't disable the tethering hack. 3.1 disabled the tethering hack.
