Do most users use a case or screen protector on their watches?
I have no statistics, but my sense from seeing other people wearing Watch is that most users do not use a case or screen protector.

I haven't used screen protectors or cases on my Watches, either, but one person's choices aren't a valid statistical sample. If I was a landscaper, construction worker, auto mechanic, or some such I might consider some additional protection, but my lifestyle is far less physical. I am a hiker, and I've never felt the need for protection for that. Of course, there are even different styles of hiking. I don't do much in the way of rock scrambling, but someone who did might certainly consider added protection.

I have known someone that got a new watch for a week and smacked it on a kitchen counter top by accident and cracked the screen. Although they had Apple Care it was still a costly repair. I use one, and work at a desk, I have bumped my watch on numerous things but it still looks brand new when you take the cover off.

wow, this is funny. It's a watch.. No protectors. They will get dinged. I've worn some fairly expensive mechanical/automatic watches in the past, all stainless of course and they do get some dings and scratches on the case. No big deal. All watches are tools and meant to be used. Sure, take care of it, but a case / protector doesn't seem necessary. All of my watches have always had sapphire glass (mechanical and Apple) and they don't scratch. They can shatter if you hit it VERY hard but I've never had that happen in decades and I'm rough on them. The Apple Watch gets some minor scratches, etc. on the stainless and looks fine. I had one aluminum and it held up very well and and the Ion X glass did too. Seriously, don't worry. These aren't things you keep for many decades, or a lifetime like a nice automatic watch and pass down. The AW will be replaced in 1-4 years and that's that. They don't hold value for resale much so just wear it, enjoy it and be happy :)

On another note, for those of us "watch guys" we often have a "beater" watch for use when doing crazy things. For me, it's a Casio G Shock. Can't kill that thing and if it breaks it's $90. I also have an inexpensive Seiko Turlte (~$350) as a beater too. For the AW, I keep the previous one I had as a beater AW of sorts or hand it down to someone. The AW functions that way for me too with my automatics....it's an inexpensive device overall (unless an edition/ceramic, etc.) so don't be afraid to use it. BTW, I'm also the guy who doesn't put screen protectors on phones and iPads....yuck! I also just use a minimal case *(almost non-existent) just so it can connect to my magnetic car dock. Otherwise, it's naked and never had an issue.

I like using a protector on the watch. It seems I am always bumping up against something and the watch would get scratched up. I'm kind of particular and that would bother me. Also, when I upgrade the watch I like to gift the used one to a family member. It's nice to give it to someone and it still looks like new.

Nope. I’m definitely some of that pays attention to ‘tech in public‘, and as much as I see Apple watches every day, I rarely ever see someone with a bumper for the casing or screen protector. The only time I’ve ever observed a protective casing for the Apple Watch was in the gym (Which makes complete Sense around machines/free weights). That said, I do recommend at least a screen for tactor for the ion-X glass. It has a very known/lengthy history to be unreliable for showing minor scratches and scrapes with very little impact. (Yes, I can attest to that when I did own the aluminum in 2015 until I migrated to the stainless, and now the Ti.)

This year is the first time I have used a case (it also has a built in tempered glass screen). I only use it at work. It is very minimal in design and you can hardly tell it is a case, and it easily pops off when needed. I can still easily use the touch screen one the watch without any impedance from the case.

The price of an Apple Watch is a significant investment and I choose to wear an Otterbox case surround.

You obviously have far more money than most, so buying a broken watch replacement obviously doesn't seem so much of a big deal, it would for me.
