I have a 13 Pro Max, and plan to trade it in Sept of 2022 or Sept of 23. I'd like to use the phone caseless during that time. I plan to carry Applecare+ on the phone during this time in case I do drop it, etc.

I don't usually drop my phone, but it sometimes it may get knocked a bit in my pocket against a table/chair, etc if I wear loose pockets. It may also get micro scratches, if I set it on a hard table. Overall, I'd say it is subject to normal use (will show some tiny scratches and wear on the body, but a clean screen).

Do you think I will be able to trade this in at the normally quoted prices, using it caseless and subjecting it to normal wear?

In general, probably not, especially if the wear and tear are obvious to the eye. I would recommend at least installing a screen protector. That way at least the screen would still be pristine by the time you traded it in.

The stainless steel body on the Pro iPhones are quite durable from dents and whatnot. Another option is to install a skin, at least to protect the back glass.

Nope. Your phone will be graded based on the cosmetic quality of the chassis and screen. The Apple trade in prices are apparently still quite good for phones with substantial wear and tear though. I would suggest those are the phones that are refurbished with fresh parts.

Like ian87w said, even a screen protector and a skin would do a lot of good. As long as you don’t drop the phone, the condition should should still be good as there would be few physical scratches.

It’s fine if there’s normal wear and tear, less than 13 dents that are less than 5mm each. No cracking (including single hairline) and no big dents. Other than than as long as there’s no liquid damage and the cameras and Face ID work as expected you should be good.
