iPhone Castro 3 for iOS not able to download in the background?

Hi there,

I just switched from using Overcast over to using Castro 3 on iOS. I love Overcast, but I wanted to test something new and the design of Castro is much more to my liking compared to Overcast and it has the same features such as SmartSpeed/TrimSilence etc..
It's not doing anything better than Overcast, they do pretty much the same and has the same features but visually it looks much better on both my iPhone Xs Max and on my Apple Watch.

But I have one major issue, even when running the Castro Plus. It never ever gives me notifications or start downloads in the background. It only triggers when I open the app.
I have auto-downloading enabled, I have several podcasts being automatically placed in the queue etc.. Notifications are enabled (tried to re-enable several times, inside the app and in the system settings), background app refresh is enabled (tried to re-enable several times), I'm never running low power mode etc.. But it just won't do anything in the background.

Anyone else facing similar issues?

It's exactly the same on my iPhone.

I restored the iPhone. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. Nothing helped.

One question: Did you test the beta version and also install it on the Apple Watch?

Because I have the feeling that that could be the reason.

A lot of Apple iOS apps wont allow things to stay in the background long enough to execute tasks such as downloading podcasts. iOS will kill the process to conserve battery and RAM. Some applications in the past exploited the location privacy to keep the application running (OneDrive,Google Photos). Its one of the worst aspects of iOS, but also one of the best (battery, consistency, performance)
