My cat managed to pull the right command key and the period key off of my MacBook last night, and does anyone know how to get the keys back on? All the plastic bits appear to be intact but I don't know how to put them back together! I know it's been done because in my search for a cure I found a MacBook that had black and white keys (creating a pretty awesome effect if I say so myself). I'd hate to pay to replace the keyboard - I don't really have that kind of money to spend and I'm not sure it can even be done!

I have one more issue with the machine in that the down arrow key does not always respond. I took it in to the Apple store yesterday and I was told that it would be a week to fix the computer! The genius at the store explained to me that the new keyboard design requires a fix or replacement of the entire top casing. Unlike previous Apple laptop designs, you can't just replace a single key!

No idea if it's true, but that's what this bloke says.

I'm not sure he's talking about the same thing...if the actual key mechanism is broken, it does require a full keyboard replacement. That's been true for a while.

But if it's just the plastic key tops that have popped off, you should be able to pop them back on if everything is intact under there. But I don't have a MacBook, so I don't know the details of how it works.

Do you have an Apple Store nearby? They'll usually pop them right back on for you at no charge.
