Catalina DB4 System Preferences freezing...

...when I try to add to Startup login items. System Preferences/Users & Groups/Login items/+ (to add item) causes System Preferences to freeze. I am using a supported MBP9,1 (mid-2012, 250G SSD, 8 GB RAM). Has this been reported or noticed by others?
