Well, my opinion for this OS is far from OK, in fact I can't use the word for it on here. Whoever devised this needs to go back to school. Here are a few reasons ( & just a few):
1. Blocked email sender....I can block these & they just keep coming back.
2. Recovered email: This is the biggest bunch of junk I have seen. You can delete trash and there are on the recovered crap. Delete those & some are back on trash/junk. Spend a few hours a day trying to get these thing off & most block but that's a joke.
3. Delete the recovered folder(s) & shortly they are back again. Read somewhere they were on Mojave but I never had any of this junk.
4. Catalina doesn't upgrade. Still at 10.15 even though I've seen posts that are on beta 3 & 4.
Those are just a few things that I know most of you tech guys laugh at or seem trivial but not to me. If you know how to fix this junk OS, let me know.

Wasn't talking about bugs. The mail on Mac has always been mediocre but now they have gone from bad to worse. This is a design flaw in my opinion, which I know doesn't mean much. I can't see the need for these recovered folders. That's design junk to me. I appreciate your answer but what I was really looking for someone that may have a solution not criticism. I understand I am on a cMP that Apple now determines obsolete that shouldn't be using this OS in the first place, however, if anyone knows how to fix or understands these "bugs" let me know

Do you understand what a BETA is?

Have you reported any of these bugs and issues using the developer feedback channel?

yes, it's a beta. yes, you're entitled to your opinion. Mail has been fine for me, forever (i've used it thru every OS since about 10.3). if you're having an issue with it, ask for help.

otherwise, another whiny, pointless thread. what does one gain by whining? wouldn't asking for help with an issue be more rewarding??

I've beta tested Apple's developer previous for years (at least 7), and I don't remember to have tested such a flawed built as Catalina.
Itunes is now Music and you have to go to iPhone under locations to backup your iPhone. Sometimes it will not connect to Music until you open image capture and click in devices on the iPhone device in the list of available devices.

Do you understand what a BETA is?
Do you?

Here is what is not:
1. A build of software that is exempt from complaint and criticism.
2. A build of software that is expected to have critical flaws.
3. A build of software that is supposed to just not work.

Here is what it is:
- A build of software, that is likely only 6 weeks away from public release. Or rather I should say wider public release, as it has already been released to the public (not just developers) with the "beta" label.

At the stage that we are right now, it is correct to expect far more stability than what we have from the current build.

It is also surprising to me that people don't realize how ridiculous they sound when they use the "its beta" reply to any/all commentary. If this were other forums, that do a more targeted job of moderating based on specific content and not just vague rules, a response like "its beta" would be an instanban.

Why?

(Hoping to objectively discuss because it’s Friday)

For this reason I’m out
Why do I bother. I won't anymore

In other words, figure it out for yourself, you sap?

I agree I have done them all as long as I can remember. This one is the least ready. Way worse than Lion. I hope it will be functional by September as Apple says it will.

Either you have the worst memory or you are just plain misrepresenting / lying.

There have been terrible, terrible beats of macOS before, particularly within the past 7 years. I can’t take your argument seriously anymore.

So, have you reported all of the issues, flaws and bugs you are encountering and are aware of??

Has the OP?

Oh, right, that’d be a “no”, is it?

Honestly the current state of macOS Catalina has me legitimately concerned.

If you compare it to iOS 13 you’d understand why I’d be concerned. iOS 13 is much more ready for a public release than Catalina.

I’m genuinely worried as well as intrigued to see how all this plays out. How can Apple release such a flawed public release of an OS. I can’t remember any macOS operating system beta with such a feeling of disharmony than this version has at this current point.

For a long time I tried to continue as a beta tester for Catalina; however, it was too unusable (for me) that I had to restore my Mac back to Mojave.

At this rate, I have absolutely zero plans to upgrade to Catalina when the public release comes out this September.

Just my $.02

If you're a developer and you use DEVELOPER PREVIEWS for the reasons they are intended these ARE NOT JUST BETAS.

People who develop apps for a living and want to tailor their apps to a platform that is increasing less stable on the FIFTH developer preview have every right to complain. What do you do for a living? Trying doing it during an earthquake when the floor is moving.

"It's just Beta" said no developer ever.

The end.

developer betas ARE betas... you need to understand what a beta actually is; the OS is clearly a work-in-progress.

"A beta is not a finished product" said intelligent developers everywhere.

The point is from DP 1 to DP 2 to Dp 3 to Dp 4 to DP5 things typically get more stable and you have fewer issues with DP 5 than with DP 1.

Speaking for myself this has not been the case for Catilina it hasn't been this bad with any of the betas I've worked with going back to Lion.

Not everyone is having the same experience with the betas. anyway, so it goes. apple has a way to go to get this out by the fall...

You either have terrible and selective memory, or you haven’t actually really tested any prior Mac OS X versions.

All the betas have segments where stuff breaks terribly that worked previously, because apple’s beta process isn’t a linear flow. That’s all I’ll say.

It’s possible they’re doing performance enhancements of APIs (that the mail application and others happen to depend on) to improve security, reliability, and performance on older and new devices alike.

Maybe more things being broken currently is a calculated risk because they’re *hoping* to make the OS better.
Since the user base has grown you can take a more calculated risk, change the API, and rely (in the non negative connotation of the word) on the beta user base to let them know.

And perhaps as a result of these changes, once the reports flow in and Apple devs can make those fixes in Mail and other apps to use the new API it’ll work even better in Catalina

1. General users should not download the beta and expect anything to work as they expect it to
2. Bug reports are important

It's funny. There is always someone who says that every year when the new beta rounds come around.

Sometimes as the beta cycle continues, more bugs could appear, as changes to previous builds, or additions could lead to bugs...
