I just installed Mac OS Catalina GM and everything seems to work properly and smooth on MacBook Pro 2015 15 inch, the only thing that I don't know how to make it work is the new Music App. Before doing the clean install, I moved the iTunes folder to an external hard drive as I always have done before doing a clean install during all this years, never had a problem before.

I used to launch iTunes and immediately reads the iTunes folder and all my music was available until today. I did the procedure that I always do but nothing happens, the Music App can't read or is not reading the iTunes folder.

Does anybody know how to make this work?

All my music, playlists and art work is in the iTunes folder.

Thank you in advance!

OK, I'm no expert but this is what (sorta) worked for me.

First of all, do not copy your backed up iTunes library to your Music folder. Copy your backup to another folder, such as Documents. I also took the precaution of deleting any movies, podcasts, home videos or TV shows from the iTunes Media folder after I'd copied everything to my Documents, just to make sure only my music library was left to import.
Next, open up the Music application and, under Preferences - Advanced, select Automatically update artwork. If I recall correctly, you'll be prompted to authorise this computer.
Finally, select File - Import and then the location of your music library backup.
Your music should be available after the import has been completed. Now, here's where I had a lot of trouble with the earlier Betas, so I'm not sure if any of my advice is still valid. But after the import was completed I noted a lot of album covers were missing. I was able to recovery many of these by selecting the Menu Item File - Library - Get Album Artwork, but still needed to add the rest of the album covers manually.
Another issue I had was that some albums were shown twice, with their songs split between albums, and I needed to ensure that each song's Information was identical (each belonged to the exact same artist and album, as well as the same genre). If that still didn't combine all the songs into a single album I checked the box entitled This song is part of a Compilation (or something similar) to finally bundle them all together.

Once I had everything squared away to my satisfaction, I then backed up the Music folder for future restoration. Again, rather than copy the Media Library directly to the Music folder upon restoration, I found that importing it from a separate folder allowed me to restore it without issue.

Hope this helps!

Did you try "Choose Library" ?? - by holding down the option key while opening the Music App? This will allow you to browse to the library, choose the pre-existing library and will automatically import that library, settings and media - same as it did in iTunes

Just a thought ?

The music app is still incredibly broken. I upgraded to GM this week. I’ve logged in and out a couple times with my ID and each time I have new Apple Music related problems and The process loading my album art is constantly running. Can’t add cloud music. Just broken.

I did not, I forgot about that. What I did is to go to setting in the Music App and import the music in the iTunes folder (Mojave) and that solve the problem.

Thanks You!

I'm having the same problem, some albums are split in 2 showing them twice... Very annoying.

Have you solve this problem?
