Catalina ok

There is so much negativity surrounding Catalina it makes me wander if I am actually using the same OS!
I had to check, oh, yes I am.. without a single issue. Is it just that only the negative gets posted? Are there in fact many more people who find Catalina a fine and stable OS, and the idea of installing unstable glitchy Big Sur a no-no.

This is exactly my experience, however I installed Catalina only on its final version.

I didn’t even do a clean install, just updated from El Capitan, then the app store upgrades.
At no point was there any issues.
MBP 13” 2012, 1TB SSD + 750Gb HDD in place of superdrive, 16Gb RAM.

Is that a problem? I wouldn’t know. I just use my machine, I never look at any of the background details. All my apps run speedily and as they should, attached peripherals work as they should- screens, printers, backup drives etc. Yes, there are measurably faster fitter machines, but in real day to day usage all is good.

I never look at the background details too, unless the fans run noisily constantly while I'm not doing much. WindowServer was making my fans run with high CPU usage, when nothing was happening. On Mojave, nothing happening = quiet computer. (To be clear, I'm absolutely fine with noisy fans when I'm doing even mildly intensive stuff!)

Issues continued until the last update and now it runs without an issue. Using it on a MacBook Pro i9 2018

I'm jealous. I have a MBP and a MacMini. I'm going to have to install windows on the macmini and revert back on the MPB. Catalina is an endless mess of inconsistent behavior. Strangly the only thing that is consistent is when I'm required to pay for something.

I wonder what apple is doing with all that money? Maybe if they spent a little less time trying to make flying cars and a bit more time on the OS it would be best in class again?

My MBA2020 finally downgraded to Catalina after few months with Big Sur, with very slow UI. Now I really appreciate its speedy and clean UI.

My only issue with Catalina is the maps location bug, but I just disabled location services for maps and all is well.

I finally upgraded my 2015 MBP from Mojave to Catalina today, and all is well so far. All my apps are working as always. I think what had me stay on Mojave so long was all the negativity. I guess time will tell, but early signs are that this upgrade will be as stable as Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave were on my machine.

I was also curious with all the Catalina bashing!
I had to recently choose a version to downgrade to from Big Sur
I chose Catalina just because it is the latest OS before Big Sur.
Zero issues with Catalina (10.5.7) - snappy UI and stable.
Granted my usage of macOS is fairly simple and stick to most of the out-of-the-box apps.

10.15 was terrible from .0 to .4, after that for me it was a lot better but still not the Apple experience I expect. I was using it on 3 real Macs and a Hacintosh. All but the Hack have gone to Big Sur and I have found several really irritating bugs have been fixed and 11.1+ has been pretty stable. For example I can plug my iPhone in to the Mac and I don't have to wait 5 min for finder to sync it to get the photos app to see it and import my photos. The music app on both OS's are absolute trash. 11's Music app is slightly and I mean only slightly better. Otherwise Catalina is fine but if your machine is 2012 and newer and has a SSD I strongly suggest giving the Big Sur a surf.

I might have different experiences with Big Sur. It is very slow in my i5 mba2020, even though I already updated to 11.2.1. I am pretty happy now with the speed and responsiveness of Catalina (forget Apple Mail). Love testing some homebrew packages on this
