I bit it, and let Catalina infect one MacBook, and it's been pretty crazy. The AppleTV+ announcement had audio from a YouTube clip extolling the virtues of Mao Zedong, which was eerie, and now the App Store shows an update available, but when I open the App Store, I get a box demanding that I enable their Arcade app. Um, no, I don't want to do that, I just want the update. 'Yeah, well, you HAVE to setup the Apple Arcade app!' Yeah, no... Weird that the Update System Pref app doesn't show an update available.

Not impressed with the attention to detail in Catalina. Really, you are going to allow any audio during your announcement for AppleTV+? Really, you are going to not allow people to say 'Pass' on the Arcade app setup? Sad...

What happens when you click continue at the bottom of the ‘ad’?

It‘s a free trial, that can be cancelled immediately, so what’s the harm?

You misunderstood. That's just a way to show you what's new in the App Store app. Clicking continue will not subscribe to Apple Arcade or whatever.
