I guess it's my turn as the upgrade is ready to roll. Checking the web before starting I saw a checklist that recommemded "Cleanmymax X" before starting the upgrade.

Is this a legit program or some kind of malwear?

It is not really malware, but it is sure an app you don't need, and it is pretty safe to assume most web sites promoting that app were paid to do so.

What is it you are thinking you would need that app to do for you?

The initial screen said something about cleaning my system. And I didn't bite. However I did go ahead with the upgrade after a full backup. With Catalina up and running, now I find it's wiped my MS Office '07 and say I have to upgrade to Office 365 which I probably won't do.

I may try to revert to Mojave to get my Office '07 back.

It can damage a system and be hard to remove, sometimes needing to restore frpm prior to its install and "infecting" your system. Junkware and yes, harmful and unnecessary. I use to use Onyx. (Even CCleaner has fallen in popularity).

These fake 'help' pages are all over the web nowadays. They offer recycled info on how to fix a problem or perform a function, but they only exist to get you to download their shady software (usually claiming it as an 'easy' alternative to whatever ails ya')

The good old 'security through obscurity' days are over I'm afraid.

Yeah.. I think that old Office suite is still 32bit and won't work with Catalina.
For sure it doesn't work. And it's gone from my system. I can't find my old Office suite in my office. The only reason I looked for it was to see if it had a 64 bit installation option.

Did a search on the net and found several "download" Office options that claim to not be subscription Office systems for as low as $40. Thinking of giving one of them a shot. I have very little need for Office on my MBA and do my heavy Office lifting on a MS Windows system.

I would only buy something like that direct from the MS web site. I'd be worried about other sites being scammers.

If your needs are not great, you might be able to get by with the free OpenOffice.

Losing older versions of MS Office is a down side of Catalina. Not wanting to pay for a new subscription on Mac, the current version of MS office is free on my iPad 9.7 as a solution. Any tablet 10" or smaller is eligible for the free version.
