Hmm, this isn't exactly a solution but a different route: I just pay the 99 cents a month for 50GB of iCloud storage then I simply let iCloud Photos do its job. Any photo taken on your iPhone is in the Photos app on your Mac in seconds/minutes. The you can drag and drop the photo from Photos.app to your desktop or wherever and it's automatically covered to a jpeg, but you still have the original HEIC in your Mac's Photos.app.
Does that help?
Oh nice, does the Mail app automatically convert images to JPG or do you have to do something for it to convert them?Mac Mail converts the file to JPG. The same happens if you're dropping them into Messages, uploading to Facebook, etc. via Safari.

This support article is very useful and covers all the questions you're asking, and more: https://support.apple.com/HT207022
The question is not whether the images are transferred to Mac as HEIC - the Mac can display and edit the file format in Preview, Photos, iMovie, Finder...
It's a matter of what you want to do with those images afterwards.
Are you planning to attach them to email? Mac Mail converts the file to JPG. The same happens if you're dropping them into Messages, uploading to Facebook, etc. via Safari.
After you airdrop the photo to your Mac, open the file in preview and export it to a JPG.thanks for the reply.
I took some picture with my Iphone and then transferred them to my Mac using air drop.
i want this pictures to be posted on craigslist, after the air drop pictures have extension of HEIC, they are not accepted by craigslist and now i am stuck
