Does it render traditional macOS coding deprecated in the near future?
 
I doubt it - the desktop does not (and really can't) have the same limitations as mobile. As for developers just wimping out and using iOS because in a lot of cases it can be used on the desktop, pretty much everything moves toward the least common denominator these days.
 
What renders traditional macOS, iOS, watchOS etc.. apps deprecated is SwiftUI and Combine. Catalyst is just a nice thing to have in order to bring more software to Mac quicker.
 
+1 to the "No's" in this thread - consumer apps are just a small portion of development work.

All serious programming tasks will still done on the PC.. ahem, sorry, Mac. 
