Long story but going to make it short. I bought the AP Max for my daughter, for her birthday. She loved the sound, but when she looked in the mirror, it was over. She is on the petit side and the large Max cans look even larger on her small head. She asked me to return the next day.

Before returning, I had to try them out. Owning the latest Sony NR over the ear headset, I thought it would be a great test to see which is better. The Apple Airpod Pro Max won hands down. Where I used to hear distortion on my Sony units at higher volumes, the Max played crystal clear, I mean sparklingly clear! I returned them to the Apple store as I had just bought the Sony unit and could not see spending that much money.

24 hours later, new pair of AirPod Max on the way from Amazon and will be here tomorrow. I would never be happy with the Sony units again. Only complaint is there is no way to turn the Max unit completely off. Not a big deal is to me as I will use them often, turning them 100% off might be a comfort to some others. Also wish they used USB-C for charging.

What are the Sony NR headsets?

There’s no product called an AirPod Pro Max either.

I’m comparing my Max to the new Sony XM5, and I find the latter to be favourable.

Given that there’s no apparent updates coming to the APM any time soon, if the thing dies, and I note that the battery life on mine aren’t great, then I’d likely opt for the XM5.

I would miss the ability to switch quickly between devices.

You are right in every respect. After a week or so with the MAX, the love affair is over. Too heavy and too big plus don’t feel good about them not have an OFF switch.

They are being returned to Amazon and the Sony WM5 unit will be here later today. Daughter got my WM4 unit on Sunday and she is very happy. I will miss the volume knob on the MAX units, it was smooth and precise compared to the Sony volume control. Another plus is the WM5 uses USB-C for charging.

I also need my over ear ANC for use while travel, That is where the MAX just don't cut it, large and heavy and that Bra is ridiculous. I love my foldable with case Sony XM4's, light and small perfect for my back pack while traveling and sound is acceptable.

Yeah not a keeper. I made some money selling a few at launch and then sold the ones I kept. Among the Bose, Sony, shure that I have the APM was least liked. Throw in the price and it’s not even close. Heck I even favored the AirPods Pro over the headset.

No way I’d get these for a teen. It’s one of apples worst products.
