I've been having troubles burning cds for a while. Now I think it is just shot. Cannot burn a cd in any program, no matter what. I can still burn dvds with no problems. Am wondering if anyone can look at the attached and confirm my burner is shot, or is it possible I've just got a software problem? thanks.

Wow. That is a pretty rare (to me) error message.

What brand of CDs are you trying to use? Have you tried any different ones? Or CD-RWs etc?

I believe that CD/DVD combination burners use separate lasers to do the CD versus the DVD burning. This is because different wavelengths, among other things, are required (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_recorder follow links to CD-R and DVD-R). It would seem that your cd burning laser is on its way out. This would explain the error message, the observation that the authoring software used is irrelevant, and the observation that you are still able to burn to DVD.

If you have applecare/applecare left I would call Apple up and see if they'll fix it.

unfortunately, applecare ran out earlier this month. also, this is the third superdrive in it. apple had already replaced it twice under applecare. however, the earlier problems were always with the dvd burning.

Do you have the Apple Hardware Test CD's? What kind of a Mac is it?
