i just tried to put a cd into my slot loading powerbook drive, but it doesnt go all the way in...usually the drive "grabs" the cd and takes it in...i tried a few different cds.....nothing..the cd wont go in.....i tried hitting eject...nothing....i restarted,,nothing...i went to my syustem profiler and under the tab for "disc burning" it says no burning device was found.....i REALLY need help with this badly...i leave for college tomorrow morning, and id need this fixed asap....any help is MUCH appreciated

Log in as another user and make sure it doesn't show up there too.

Then, I'd move onto a PMU reset, find the relevant "how to" on

Otherwise (if that doesn't work), if it's a hardware issue, you should be talking with Apple or an Apple Certified Hardware Repair center, not a forum.

no luck.....what happens if i reset the pmu....do i lose all the files on my computer?

how much do you think this would run to fix at the apple store (i dont have apple care)

The same thing happenned to my iBook. The only solution was getting the combo drive replaced. Luckily, I had Apple Care. That's why I strongly recommend it for all laptop users. Good luck getting it replaced.

PMU is a power management unit, it's a hardware thingy. It's a long shot. It doesn't affect your files. Replacement of the unit? No idea. I don't think it'll be cheap though.

yeah this sucks.....im at the apple store now waiting to get helped and for them to take all my money......

they cant fix it in store,........i need to send away which will take 2 weeks....i leave for school tomorrow....worst possible timing

Well better now then later in the year. You will be busy meeting new people and probably not being assigned too much homework that will require your computer. Just get it out soon as possible and use lab computers for a while. Many times these things are fixed much quicker than 2 weeks.

If we get the laptops, it is a HUGE peace of mind issue to get applecare...I swear!!!!
