I'm trying to import some CDs on my MBP, but itunes gets stuck around the last few tracks. I can hear the CD drive making a repeated spinning/clicking noise that keeps staring and stopping, but no progress on importing the track. i've tried this w/ multiple cds too.

is this likely a problem w/ my drive? i'm guessing it is and i'll have to apple care it. if so, which has faster turn around time, calling apple care or taking it in to a genius bar?

UPDATE: I tried some more CDs and they're importing fine. Its just a few random ones that are causing problems. They're actual purchased (not burned) CDs and are completely scratch free.

The CD drive in Macbooks and MBPs are extremly picky when it comes to media. I burned an mp3 cd with iTunes using TDK media. The first few tracks were ok, but towards the middle and the end it started skipping really badly on my Alpine headunit as well as my Sony MP3 CD player (the sony actually couldn't read like half the disk).

Not until i used Toast and the verification tool did it come out perfect.

has anyone noticed problems w/ non-burned, purchased music cds? its wierd b/c usually its a certain track that won't import properly, but somtimes other tracks cause problems as well. its all readly random.

it might still be the picky nature of the cd drive though, b/c the cds i'm having trouble w/ are produced by some real obscure record label. maybe they're using low quality discs or something. who knows.

i have the matshita drive and while i had a couple problems importing some cd's, i haven't any problems ripping dvd's or writing cd's and dvds. i have apple care and i'm going to wait until apple uses a quality super drive.
