CD making weird sounds in drive

Yeah, so i get this Archeology cd, which costs like 100 bucks for uni, and i put it in my powerbook (look at sig), and it makes this really really loud noise. I tried other cds and it doesn't make the noise. It goes to its highest speed, then goes faster, and the whole pb vibrates, and makes this awful sound. What do i do? it reads the cd, but i'm afraid to install it.

If it reads the CD, you should be fine installing it. Is there a chance the CD has some sort of DRM (unlikely) or that it's perhaps dirty/scratched?

It is completely new! and what is drm?

I know, but that doesn't always mean it's not scratched on the production line. Is there any way to ask for a replacement?

It stands for Data Rights Management from memory. In other words, it'll be a little app that runs when you insert the disk and makes sure you use it properly/have the right licences. I really doubt this is your problem though, I just mentioned it because some music CDs with DRM act funny sometimes.


Aim for a replacement if possible. Oh, and do you need it to run the software or can you simply install the apps onto the PowerBook and pretty much leave the CD in its case from then on?

Sometimes the print on top of the CD will put the CD out of balance, so when you put it in your drive it will vibrate like hell until it spins down, or isn't in use. Some drives are worse than others with CD/DVD vibrations. My Tiger Installation DVD vibrated like hell in my old iMac G5, but doesn't make a sound in my 17" PowerBook.

ok guys thx for your help. I tried putting it in for a third time, and it didn't make a sound, and i installed it. How's that for lucky 3rd time try?
