I was wondering if there was any software for OS X that let you index and organize data CDs and DVDs (not music, not movies). I've looked and lookd but couldn't find any. I have near 100 CDRs and DVDRs with files on them and it makes it hard to find anything. I've tried keeping a spreadsheet of the CD and what was on it, but that takes a lot of time to copy and paste filenames from the CD into the spreadsheet.
So, I was thinking of programming a small little app that indexes and organizes removable media. You could search it and also organize the files into your own structured tree, independent of where it was stored on the media. Then you could select a bunch of files and click "restore," which would prompt you for a directory where you wanted to restore them (or it could just give you a list of CDs they were on).
Does such a program exist for OS X? Would anybody find it useful if I threw together a little program that did this?
