I'm wondering if I have a major problem here..
I'm just going to make a list of what happened to make it very simple to understand what happened..

1 Put in a semi-scratched audio CD
2 Mini looked at it for like 45 seconds and spit it back out
3 I wiped it again and put it back inside..
4 Mini started trying to read it..
5 Mini started to choke and freeze
6 I pushed the eject button
7 Mini makes a noise like it's trying to eject the CD (Sounded almost like a cell phone vibrating) and continue to try to read the disc loudly
8 It starts alternating with the reading noises and cell phone eject type noise..
9 Beach ball..music stopped playing. computer locked up
10 So I turned it off by holding the off button..
11 Turned it back on; within 2 seconds it started picking at the disc again..And it stayed at the gray apple screen
12 Tried again..nothing
13 I tied the zap the PRAM thing..and it finally booted into OSX
(During this time I didn't hear the typical start-up BONG music..)
14 Showed up as an Audio CD which I quickly removed..

So my main question..Is there something seriously wrong with my drive? It seems to have an ejection problem or something? Keep in mind this is probably the 7th disc I've ever used and the rest worked perfectly.

One other question is the Mini supposed to have a tini click every few minutes or so? It sounds almost like..if you click your nails together..

Thanks for any help guys.

It's possible the power cables inside connecting the CD drive to the computer itself are loose. This sounds exactly like what happened when my HD's power cables were loose.

In future, hold down the mouse button during start up to eject the disk. It's probably easier than having to reset PRAM and then waiting for the thing to load before quickly ejecting.

I'd try a few more disks before condemning the drive to AppleCare. What you describe isn't normal behaviour but the fact that it's slightly scratched may have caused this. Hopefully, that's the case.

Now, as for the clicking hard drive, keep an eye on it. Generally clicking is the first sign of a failing hard drive. Go to Disk Utility and check to see that the SMART status is verified. Keep everything backed up regularly. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid and the clicking is something else though. :)

My mini is not too friendly with scratched CDs (semi or otherwise). Sometimes, it ejects itself but most of the time, it freezes with the sound you are familiar with.

That's very comforting.

However, is the noise only when you're having these disk problems or is all the time? Hopefully it's just the same problem fayans has. :)
