Hey I noticed that the cdock app is not able to customize the dock on El Capitan

It was working fine on Yosemite, anyone else?

I have the same problem. I used the transparent feature and it no longer works. Hopefully, they will come out with an update.

Is there any way one can customize the docks look using standard features in El Capitan?

Probably not. These system applications are protected now. Either you turn SIP off or you live with it. :)

cDock works just fine in El Capitan, but you do need to disable SIP to install it, after which SIP can be re-enabled.

System Integrity Protection in El Capitan

Follow these steps to disable SIP:

  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. Before OS X starts up, hold down Command-R and keep it held down until you see an Apple icon and a progress bar. Release. This boots you into Recovery.
  3. From the Utilities menu, select Terminal.
  4. At the prompt type exactly the following and then press Return: csrutil disable
  5. Terminal should display a message that SIP was disabled.
  6. From the  menu, select Restart.
You can re-enable SIP by following the above steps, but using csrutil enable instead.

I didn't know if cdock, total Finder, default folder x, etc would still work if I re-enabled SIP. I installed those and took out the alias arrows on all aliases except the smallest so that app stacks would look cleaner.

Hi,

cdock 2 does not work properly (I am unable to set transparency), in spite of doing all of the above steps and deselecting reduce transparency in 'accessibility'. This said, cdock 2 does allow for some functionality in El Capitan, just not transparency (which is actually why I have it)

Transparency working here with cDock2, MP 2009, so there maybe something in your system causing that. Try disabling SIP, deleting the old cDock prefs, and reinstalling? cDock 2, and Liteicon 3.6.1 both work with SIP off, and cDock continues to work even after reenabling SIP.

I didn't know there was a cDock2 now. Hmm.

Thanks all but problem still exists - disables SIP - deleted cdock, downloaded new cdock (v9.8 now not 9.5) and clicked on (3D) Normal - trying to get back to look from mavericks. Am I using wrong choice (3D) normal? The dock icons remain pancake flat???

Should work,
are you disabling sip correctly ?

My CD2 version 0.9.8 does not show (3D) Normal only Clean, Lite and nite.

Disabled SIP, deleted CDock and the app support folder for it, reinstalled CDock. Doesn't work. Does absolutely nothing. Running 10.11.3 on a Mid 2012 MBP.
