If I remember correctly if your cell phone bill from AT&T is over $100 you can upgrade at the new customer price?

Yea, I have a 3g now. I can upgrade at any time though because I have multiple lines. But if my bill is over $100 cant I
use my own line?

Read the fine print, it says specifically it doesn't apply the iphone. Its on their website somewhere

Who knows, but since the 6th month of my 3G contract I was able to upgrade for the discounted price, I do pay more than $100 a month.

I didn't upgrade waiting for a newer iPhone, when the 3GS came out I gave my 3G to my wife and I got a second line, I still can get a 3Gs for $199, probably next week I will go to get it and sell it on ebay

What happens if with a family plan the service is over $100 a month? My service by itself is only $40.

They go by name and plan on the account. mine was the primary and I qualified due to being over 100 but my brother was in the same boat and didn't qualify
